Biden and Pope Francis discuss pandemic and climate crisis

US President Joe Biden and Pope Francis discussed the problem of the pandemic and overcoming the climate crisis at a personal meeting in the Vatican. This was reported by the press service of the White House.

The head of the United States expressed gratitude to the Pope for his support of poor people, as well as those suffering from hunger, conflict and persecution.

The conversation between Biden and Francis took place in the library of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican. It lasted one hour and 15 minutes. As a result, the President of the United States spoke with the pontiff longer than his predecessors Barack Obama (50 minutes) and Donald Trump (30 minutes).

Biden presented Francis with a piece of liturgical vestment – a handmade kazul. It was created in the 1930s. In addition, he presented the Pope with a coin depicting the emblem of the 261st National Guard Brigade. His deceased son Bo Biden served in it.

“You are the most important defender of the world that I know. And with your permission, I would like to give you a coin. But she has a peculiarity. I know that my son would like me to hand it over to you, ”the president said.

The Pope presented the American leader with a majolica work entitled “The Pilgrim”, as well as some documents from the pontificate.

Biden arrived to meet the pontiff with his wife Jill. This is the first visit of an American leader to the Vatican since his election as president.
