Belousov: Russia offers NATO to agree on de-escalation

Russia offers NATO to agree on de-escalation measures, including a mutual reduction in military activity along the borders, TASS reports, citing a statement by the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation at the UN Office in Geneva, Andrei Belousov.

As Belousov said during his speech at the First Committee of the General Assembly of the world organization, now key agreements in the field of arms control are being destroyed, and military potential is being built up.

“It is obvious that until NATO abandons its course of containing Russia, interaction and dialogue will be difficult,” he stressed.

Belousov also suggested that Moscow and the alliance agree on improving mechanisms for preventing incidents and dangerous military activities.

Earlier, Moscow suspended the work of the permanent mission of Russia to NATO, and also terminates the work of the NATO information center in Moscow. This decision was made after the alliance revoked the accreditation of eight employees of the permanent mission of the Russian Federation at the organization.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that NATO’s line towards Moscow is becoming more and more aggressive.
