President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko was awarded the black beret of a riot police officer.
According to Sputnik Belarus, the decision to award Lukashenka with this insignia was made by the advice of the commanders of the militia unit, although special tests are required to obtain a black beret.
The commander of the Minsk riot police Dmitry Balaba said that the beret was awarded for special merits.
“You were with us in battle formations, and now you are a full-fledged OMON fighter,” he said.
The Belarusian leader himself joked that he would hardly have passed the tests for the right to wear a black beret.
Today Alexander Lukashenko presented state awards to law enforcement officers and servicemen, including Balaba.
A New Year’s ball was held in Minsk yesterday with the participation of the president. More than 300 young men and women from different regions of the republic were invited to the event. Among them are the winners, participants and laureates of various competitions and Olympiads.
