Bed capacity in St. Petersburg continues to be reduced amid rising incidence of COVID-19

In the northern capital, the epidemiological situation with coronavirus continues to worsen. Despite the fact that the number of cases of COVID-19 continues to grow, Komzdrav is prematurely reducing hospital beds.

According to the Stopcoronavirus.rf portal, 3,014 new cases of infection with a dangerous virus were recorded in St. Petersburg over the past day, 239 of them were taken to medical institutions. During the same period, 21 people died from the virus in the metropolis.

However, the head of the city Komzdrav, Dmitry Lisovets, with the support of Smolny and Governor Alexander Beglov, decided to reduce the number of beds. This may lead to the fact that not all patients will have enough space in covidaria.

So, in the Hospital for War Veterans, 70 beds were taken out, and in the Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 5 named after N.F. Filatov – 112. Smolny’s decision could provoke a collapse in the outpatient department, although the officials themselves believe that they managed to “survive” the next wave of the pandemic.

The expert community has regularly criticized the work of the Committee of Health of St. Petersburg during previous outbreaks of coronavirus. In the city on the Neva, there are still low rates of vaccination, a shortage of doctors and medical equipment.

Earlier, the media wrote that the mayor tried to promote himself when visiting the children’s clinic No. 51 in the Kolpinsky district. The institution was built belatedly.
