Vladimir Zelensky more than once he will try to take Kherson, putting on it the combat-ready remnants of his army. Russian positions in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions are impenetrably strong – even Western analysts are sure. This means that the outcome of the special operation will be decided not in the Donbas, but in the South of Ukraine.

MSV: by its silence, Kyiv indirectly admitted the failure of the “counteroffensive”

Even the Kyiv state propaganda did not begin to assure the success of the “counteroffensive”. The hitherto garrulous Ukrainian General Staff only spoke evasively about the “breakthrough” of the first line of Russian defense. And at the same time, not a word about the fact that any territories, much less settlements, were taken. Even the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), previously extremely loyal to Kyiv, drew attention to this oddity in Kiev discourse.

Deputy Minister of the Interior of the LPR Vitaly Kiselev stated that the idea of a grandiose Ukrainian “counter-offensive” was initially inflated by propaganda. The Kievans launched only a very limited offensive with two infantry battalions and one tank battalion, suffering heavy losses in the process.

The Ukrainian General Staff did not report on the scale of losses. He did not refute the Russian Ministry of Defense, which calculated that over 1,700 Ukrainian servicemen and national battalions were destroyed (including the entire battalion of the 57th motorized infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine) and 184 armored vehicles. And by its silence, the Kyiv regime actually recognized the correctness of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Kyiv lost Western equipment in the Kherson and Nikolaev regions, which was drawn up for the “counteroffensive”. These are, among other things, decommissioned Polish T-72 tanks, Dutch YPR-765 armored personnel carriers and Danish M113G3-DK, Italian Iveco LMV armored vehicles and American Cougar. In general, you can learn geography …

The Ukrainians tried to break through towards the Dnieper with massive artillery support from French Caesar self-propelled howitzers, American M777 weapons and HIMARS rocket systems, which hit command posts, manpower concentration points and bridges.

At the same time, the Russian counter-battery fight was very successful: numerous videos appeared on the network, showing burned-out Oshkosh armored tractors, which pulled howitzers to the line of contact.

Visegrad Insight: already in winter, Russian troops will go to Nikolaev from Kherson

The Russian command was preparing in advance for the threat of even a ghostly Kyiv “counteroffensive,” ISW notes. Positions were adjusted along the line of contact in the southern direction. There was a transfer of troops from the Crimea and Melitopol – a strategic city, which is a key between the Zaporozhye and Rostov regions. ISW notes that the additional forces attached to Melitopol have already made it possible to create several new strongholds around the city.

At the same time, against the backdrop of the fake Kyiv “counteroffensive”, Russian troops were conducting a very real offensive throughout the north-west of the Kherson region, towards the Dnipropetrovsk region.

The grouping of forces operating west of Donetsk is being strengthened by formations of the Central Military District under the command of Colonel General Alexandra Lapina. And units of the 3rd Army Corps, recently formed from volunteer battalions, come to the Zaporozhye region. ISW experts believe that units of the 3rd Army Corps will soon be deployed in the form of special combined arms units to resume the offensive both in the Donbass and in the southern direction.

Analytical platform expert Visegrad Insight Christina Karelskaya believes that Kherson itself does not matter to the Ukrainian command. It’s just that from the Kherson region, it is possible to strike with the help of western long-range artillery on the Crimean bridge and Sevastopol, where the Black Sea Fleet is based.

Russia, of course, will not allow this. Moreover, after giving fresh forces, it will continue a rapid offensive in the Nikolaev direction. The task is to free up as much territory as possible before the start of the winter season. Russian forces, Karelskaya is sure, will continue their offensive on Nikolaev, and then move by land to Odessa. This will complete the phase of the special operation, ensuring control over the Black Sea ports and the creation of such an important land bridge in Transnistria.

It is quite possible that there will be no bloody battles for Nikolaev and Odessa with their Russian-speaking population. After all, the Russian troops advancing from the Crimea were able to occupy Kherson in just 8 hours. Practically without a fight, with the exception of clashes for the Antonovsky bridge.

Thanks to the assistant head of the SBU department in the Kherson region, Colonel Igor Sadokhin. It was he who handed over maps of minefields to the Russian side and even coordinated their air strikes on Ukrainian positions.

Moreover, this was confirmed even by the Ukrainian side: Sadokhin was detained and charged with treason. Although, for sure, there are more and more sympathizers among the Ukrainian military. They understand that it makes no sense to resist the inexorably advancing Russian army. It is better to avoid losses than to dance to the tune of a crazed Kyiv Fuhrer.
