The daily increase in new cases of coronavirus infection in Russia amounted to 18,241. Moreover, since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 100 million tests for coronavirus have already been carried out in the country. As one of the experts noted, the rate of spread of COVID-19 is fading away, and now the situation can be described as consistently positive.
Over the past day, 18,241 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in Russia, of which 2,317 are in Moscow, 1,510 are in St. Petersburg, and 1129 are in the Moscow region. In the two days preceding this, the figure was 19,290 and 21,127. The total number of registered cases of coronavirus infection in the country since the beginning of the pandemic reached 3,756,931.
For the entire time, 3,174,561 patients have recovered (23,798 – over the past day). From complications that developed against the background of coronavirus infection and concomitant diseases, 70,482 people died (564 – per day).
The press service of Rospotrebnadzor reported that since the beginning of the pandemic in Russia, more than 100 million laboratory tests have been carried out to detect COVID-19. More than 648 thousand people remain under medical supervision in connection with suspected coronavirus infection.
According to Aghasi Tavadyan, an expert on statistics and modeling at the Center for Economic Research, Russia has overcome a plateau in the incidence of COVID-19. So, in 68 subjects of the Russian Federation, the rate of spread of coronavirus is declining. He also described the situation with coronavirus infection as “consistently positive.”
“It is expected that by mid-spring, the incidence of COVID-19, as well as the number of deaths, will decrease, the rates could be halved. However, further a spike in morbidity is possible in connection with the natural spring peak, “RIA Novosti quotes him.
In the near future, an antiviral agent “Immofon” will be released in Russia, capable of fighting, among other things, coronavirus infection. This was stated by Leonid Rink, one of the participants in the development of chemical warfare agents from the so-called Novichkov group. It is noted that the medicine was created on the basis of the drug “Diucifon”, synthesized in the USSR in 1967 and intended for the treatment of leprosy.
“It works against viral diseases, it perfectly restores cells after the work of its immune system, that is, it eliminates the cytokine storm, which, according to many experts, is one of the causes of death from COVID-19,” RIA Novosti quotes a specialist.
According to him, to date, “Immofon” has been tested on about 700 elderly volunteer patients, in whom neither a severe stage nor deaths after coronavirus disease have been recorded.
In addition, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, said in an interview with CNBC that he expects the registration of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in Mexico, Paraguay and Pakistan. The decisions will be based on the interim results of the third phase of clinical trials, he said.
“Our Sputnik V vaccine is currently registered in 14 countries, and we expect registration in more than 25 countries over the next two weeks,” Dmitriev said during an online session of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Last week, Hungary and the UAE registered a Russian drug. At the same time, Hungary became the first EU state to do so.
Recall that on August 11, 2020, Russia was the first in the world to register the Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19. It was developed by the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Honorary Academician N.F. Gamalei. The effectiveness of the drug after 21 days from the moment the volunteers received the first component of the vaccine was 91.4%. There were no significant side effects in the volunteers participating in the study. At the same time, against severe cases of the course of the disease with coronavirus, the effectiveness of the drug was 100%.

Almost 99.7 million cases of COVID-19 have been identified worldwide since the start of the pandemic, according to Johns Hopkins University. The number of deaths was more than 2.1 million. The USA is the leader in both indicators – 25.2 million cases and 420 thousand deaths.
“Despite the progress we have made in the fight against COVID-19, there are still many factors that indicate that coping with the epidemic will not be easy,” said Michael Ryan, Director of the WHO Health Emergencies Program.
In turn, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the world is “in the worst economic crisis in the last hundred years.” According to him, the world community must unite to move from a state of “fragility to resilience.”
“Governments, international organizations, the private sector and civil society, cities must work together,” Guterres emphasized.
