B-1, air strike: “The Black Sea Fleet – in a sieve, the Baltic Fleet – at once to the bottom”

In the early 80s of the last century, the US Air Force received at its disposal a hundred brand new strategic bombers B-1, whose purpose was solely to deliver nuclear strikes against enemy targets. However, 10 years later, they went through the denuclearization procedure, after which the fleet of these bombers began to rapidly thin out. At the time of the invasion of the United States and its allies, first into Afghanistan and then into Iraq, about 60 of them remained in the ranks.

Decades of intensive B-1 operation in arid and mountainous terrain have dramatically increased the cost of their maintenance, so much so that the command of the American BBC asked Congress early last year to write off nearly two dozen of the most “killed” bombers. The remaining ones are planned to be completely replaced with brand new B-21s in another 10 years.

Interestingly, at the same time, the flight activity of the surviving “dinosaurs of the Cold War” increased sharply, and for the most part in the direction of the Russian borders. So, in particular, the Aggregator Pravda telegram channel draws attention, in April 2020 one B-1B Lancer made a non-stop 29-hour flight from the Ellsworth airbase, having worked out a joint set of measures in the Japanese air defense forces.

On May 5, two B-1B Lancer visited the Baltic Sea region, where they worked out joint actions with the air controllers of the NATO group in Estonia, and on May 11, two B-1B Lancer visited the Baltic again, working out interaction with the F-16 fighters of the Danish Air Force, as well as the F-16 and the MiG-29 of the Polish Air Force.

On October 19 of this year, a pair of American B-1 bombers with the callsigns Dark01 and Dark02 headed east from the British Air Force base in Fairford. It flew over the North Sea, and then, accompanied by fighters from the Air Forces of Canada, Romania and Poland, went to the Black Sea, in the international airspace of which they worked out actions to deliver a massive missile strike against a ship formation of the Black Sea Fleet of Russia.

After that, the American magazine Forbes burst out with a pretentious article that only two bombers of the US Air Force B-1 Lancer in one pass are capable of turning the Black Sea Fleet of Russia into a shooting range, and completely destroying its Baltic Fleet.

In the event of a war with Russia, the overseas publication emphasized, 48 LRASM anti-ship missiles will be enough for this (24 for each bomber), the long range of which will allow the B-1 Lancer to conduct aimed fire at targets from anywhere in NATO airspace over the Black Sea. thus eliminating the main threat to US ships and allies in the region. At the same time, the emphasis was placed on the fact that in the future the United States plans to equip strategic bombers B-1B Lancer with hypersonic missiles.

“SP” asked the experts if the B-1 is really capable of turning our navies into a sieve, and how this threat can be neutralized.

– These are all hypothetical fabrications from the category “one grandmother said, one grandfather did”, – he categorically spoke about this captain I rank in reserve Vasily Dandykin… – Hypothetically, the Russian Empire was also going to destroy Japan in 1905, throwing hats on the land and at sea, but we all remember very well how this turned out in practice.

First, according to my information, the United States does not yet possess hypersonic missiles, all tests of this kind are being unsuccessful with them.

Secondly, they have other missiles, of course. But let’s remember how the Americans not so long ago fired massively at Syria with their “Tomahawks”. Which of the releases made it to the targets? One, two, and missed, and this is taking into account the fact that the most modern Syrian air defense crews opposed this attack. And we have S-400 missile systems on alert in the same Crimea, plus there are accompanying weapons like the same “Pantsir”.

So, no two bombers can destroy our Black Sea or Baltic fleet. And the planes and other military formations of the enemy in these regions are clearly not good luck.

“SP”: – And in the area of responsibility of the Pacific Fleet? After all, American journalists seriously argue that the recent transfer of F-16 fighters to the airfield closest to the Russian borders on Shemya Island in Alaska is part of the preparation of the American side in the event of a “full-scale war with Russia.”

“In the Far East and Kamchatka, we have an excellent means of countering this threat, the MiG-31 long-range fighter-interceptor. Yes, it was developed a long time ago, but, despite this, it remains a unique project that still commands respect for its capabilities all over the world, including the United States.

“SP”: – Are our ships themselves sufficiently equipped to withstand such an air attack?

– Here you have to take into account a whole range of reasons. Bombers are strategic weapons used more for ground targets, but specifically for work on ships, the Americans have carrier-based aircraft. But we also have it, including a distant one, which at one time worked perfectly against terrorists without entering the zone of destruction by enemy air defense systems.

We also have superbly equipped submarines. This year we expect to receive four more, three of which are nuclear-powered, including a strategic missile submarine cruiser. Plus, on the way, completely unique new frigates of Project 22350 with a good air defense system, with strike missiles, with domestic gas turbine installations are on the way.

In the future, our fleets are planned to be replenished with ships close in parameters to destroyers, which will be direct competitors of the American Arleigh Burke-class destroyers.

Russia now, I think, has successfully reached the level of creating ships and frigates, which in fact are among the best in their class. Although, of course, it should be admitted that the United States and its allies, vassals, in the aggregate, have more opportunities in this area.

“SP”: – That is, even a purely hypothetical strike by the United States will be deliberately doomed to failure?

– It’s one thing when such statements are made by Poles. This is forgivable for them due to their extreme Russophobic position. But such statements by the Americans, to put it mildly, are perplexing.

Even if we imagine that the B-1 will take off ideally and fly perfectly to a given point (and this is very problematic, given that all such takeoffs are clearly tracked), in order to launch missiles from European airspace, it will be, first of all, notable ” set up “NATO allies. Moreover, such a blow would actually be a declaration of war on Russia.

But America, in my opinion, if it dares to “touch” Russia, it will do it with the hands of its allies, and not with its own. Which, however, has always happened before.

So all this talk about a “full-scale war” is, in my opinion, just hectic polemics and puffing out the cheeks, nothing more. It happens, firstly, because America really does not like our special partnership with China, and, secondly, to lobby for the interests of the US military-industrial complex, whose funding is growing rapidly.

And, of course, the information war against Russia should not be disregarded either. The winner will be the one who will have stronger nerves, within its framework there will be many more similar provocations. I hope that we will emerge victorious from this battle, who have seen in our lifetime many different external and internal cataclysms and restructuring.
