Autoevolution: Solving the mystery of the

The arms race between the USSR and the United States gave rise to an experimental ekranoplan “KM”, which put the Central Intelligence Agency in an uncomfortable position, writes Romanian analyst Codrin Spiridon.

In a publication for Autoevolution, cited by PolitRussia, he noted that the apparatus created by Soviet engineers, due to its impressive size, received the nickname “Caspian monster” in the West. Its length was 92 meters, and its wingspan was 37.6 meters.

“Is this a boat? This is a plane? No, it’s a Russian sea monster. The name is an ekranoplan, and it is not a plane or a boat. Technically, he did fly, but did not rise more than a couple of feet above the surface of the water. It took the CIA almost 20 years to figure out that this thing couldn’t fly,” the author noted.

He also drew attention to the combat power of the “sea monster” created in the USSR. The vehicle was adapted for surface combat. To this end, it was equipped with six rocket launchers.
