The Austrian government has agreed to purchase Sputnik V, a Russian vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19, in order to start using it after registration by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
This is stated in the statement of the Chancellor of the Republic Sebastian Kurz, informs RIA Novosti.
“We have agreed to purchase 1 million doses of Sputnik V vaccine, which is already being used in more than 50 countries,” he said.
Kurz also expressed hope for a speedy registration of the Russian-made drug by the European regulator EMA, noting that each additional vaccine “will help save lives, save jobs and quickly return to normal life.”
Earlier it was reported about Slovenia’s intention to purchase Sputnik V without waiting for its approval by the European regulator.
Meanwhile, Roszdravnadzor told about the absence of blood clots among those vaccinated with the Russian vaccine.
