Australian authorities canceled Djokovic’s visa and expel him from the country

The Australian Federal Border Service announced the cancellation of the visa of the Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, who flew to Melbourne to participate in the Australian Open, and his expulsion from the country, TASS reports.

According to Australian Health Minister Greg Hunt, the reason for the cancellation of the visa was that the Serbian tennis player did not provide evidence of a legal medical exemption from vaccinations.

“Unvaccinated people cannot enter Australia if they do not have medical exemption,” he said.

In turn, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison stressed that the rules remain the same for everyone in order to maintain one of the lowest death rates from COVID-19 in the world.

Morrison previously said that the country’s borders will remain closed until December 2022.

Australian authorities closed the state’s borders on March 24, 2020 in connection with the pandemic. Citizens of the country are allowed entry, but must withstand a two-week quarantine.
