Auchan has reduced the number of supermarkets in Russia


The French network Auchan has reduced the number of supermarkets in Russia in the first half of 2021. This is reported by RBC.

During this time, the Russian representative office has closed 17 points. Now Elo Group (formerly called Auchan Holding) has 236 Auchan stores in Russia. Of these, 95 are hypermarkets and 143 are supermarkets.

In 2020, Auchan had 212 supermarkets in Russia. This means that their number has decreased by 32.5 percent over the year. Some of them have changed their status to urban format hypermarkets with smaller areas “Auchan City”.

Elo Group’s revenue in Eastern and Central Europe in the first six months of 2021 increased by 3 percent, to 14.8 billion rubles. The number of sales in the Auchan chain in Russia increased by 3 percent. The share of online trading was 4 percent, a threefold increase.

Earlier it became known that Auchan will change the concept of hypermarkets in Russia. It is planned to reduce their area, and lease the remaining share to other stores. Part of the territory of hypermarkets will be equipped with darkstores, that is, small warehouses.
