Armenian Ambassador to Russia Vardan Toganyan stated that the situation on the border with Azerbaijan is extraordinary, therefore Yerevan is discussing the development of events with Moscow.
According to the diplomat, troops have invaded the Armenian territory, there are battles along the entire perimeter of the southeastern border, there are casualties, armored vehicles and artillery are being used, RIA Novosti reports.
Toganyan added that Yerevan has not yet submitted to Russia an official request for assistance in accordance with the 1997 Friendship Treaty. There was only an oral appeal from the Secretary of the Security Council, while the process is ongoing, the ambassador explained.
According to the latest data from the Armenian Defense Ministry, intense fighting continues on the eastern border, 12 Armenian servicemen were captured. As a result of retaliatory actions, Azerbaijani troops suffered heavy losses of personnel, about 10 armored vehicles were destroyed.
Earlier on November 16, the department announced that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces had invaded the country, which led to casualties, and there are also casualties. Data on them are being specified. In addition, it was reported that the Armenian side had lost two combat positions.
In turn, Azerbaijan called the situation on the border tense and accused the Armenian side of provocations.
