American “soldiers of fortune” should not underestimate the power of the Russian army and go to fight in Ukraine, because there they may die or become crippled. This was stated in an interview for CBS News by a US military man who returned from Ukraine.

He admitted that he was aware of all the risks before going to Ukraine, but still underestimated the strength of the Russian army. From this, he warned other mercenaries who want to repeat his path.

“You can be killed, or someone else can be killed because of you. People need to realize how tough this is. This is not the Taliban *. This is not the Iraqi army. The Russians have air support and air superiority, no doubt, ”the source said.

He also commented on the information that two American mercenaries Andy Huyna I Alexandra Dryuk were taken prisoner. According to him, they also underestimated the power of the Russian army and in vain agreed to a trip to Ukraine.

Earlier, one of the American mercenaries fighting on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine spoke about regular cases of friendly fire in the Ukrainian army, calling this state of affairs a “madhouse” and a “circus.” Correspondence with him was published by a journalist Set harp.

“People get hurt and die for nothing – it’s just a freak circus. We got involved in a two-hour battle – it turned out that with the Ukrainian special forces, it was incomprehensible. If not <…> (name hidden. -ed.), I would never participate in this stupid madhouse, ”the mercenary wrote.

Meanwhile, The Washington Post reports that another American mercenary has died in Ukraine. Stephen Zabelski with reference to an obituary in the publication of the American’s hometown. According to the publication, the message was written by family members of the 52-year-old American.

The Washington Post said that, according to unverified information, the mercenary was a US Army veteran and hit a mine. Information about the death of Zabelski in Ukraine has already been confirmed by the State Department.

Previously reported death in Ukraine Willie Joseph Cancelserved in a private military company, thus Zabelski became the second dead American mercenary.

We also recall that earlier two American mercenaries were captured in the Kharkiv region. Judgment awaits them.

According to the official representative of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry PeskovAmerican mercenaries captured in Ukraine cannot count on the protection of the Geneva Convention.

“I would not go into explaining the legal side of their captivity. One thing is clear – they committed crimes. They are not members of the Ukrainian army. The Geneva Convention does not apply to them,” he stressed.

Peskov called the captured Americans “soldiers of fortune” who participated in illegal activities in Ukraine and shot at the Russian military.

“They threatened their lives and must be held accountable … for the crimes they committed,” the Kremlin spokesman concluded.

In addition, according to him, Russia does not guarantee that captured Americans will escape the death penalty in the DPR or LPR.

Perhaps this hint will be able to cool some hotheads? Or they will be cooled by coffins that arrived in the United States from Ukraine. Note that while we are talking about two dead mercenaries and two prisoners. But is it really so? Does the reality correspond to the voiced official statistics? Or can American losses be hushed up?

“There is definitely no reason for Russia to keep silent about the mercenaries,” I am sure. Director of the EAEU Institute Vladimir Lepekhin.

— On the contrary, the Russian Federation is interested in making public the facts of participation in the war in Ukraine of foreign mercenaries on the side of the Nazi regime. For this reason, the modest numbers of American involvement in the military operations in Ukraine are likely to be true.

“SP”: Will the deaths of some of them discourage U.S. safari lovers from traveling to Ukraine? Or is it a minor loss?

– Of course not. The main thing here is money. Therefore, the mercenaries will continue to strive for Ukraine, but they will be more prudent to participate in military operations after the capture of one of them by Russian troops.

“SP”: The US State Department, by the way, urges its citizens not to travel to Ukraine. How sincere is this, and how many will listen?

– Mercenaries arrive in Ukraine from the United States not because they were called to this by TV and other press. They are recruited by power structures, and they pay too. And this is well understood in the State Department. So the State Department can call for anything – it has nothing to do with reality.

“SP”: Peskov did not rule out the use of the death penalty for captured Americans. What awaits them, in your opinion?

– Well, since the American military was captured by the Russian military, why shouldn’t the Russian leadership play with them like a cat with mice? Peskov, as usual, voices absolutely obvious things.

“SP”: To what extent can the prospect of captivity and execution reduce the number of Americans who want to fight?

“They already know what they are getting into. The prospects for all mercenaries are “bright” – injury, captivity, death. But I also want to make money. Despite the fact that mercenaries are paid well, and there is no need to turn stones …

“Even if all the mercenaries are shot, it will be insignificant losses for the United States, but the public outcry from the execution of the sentence can seriously damage the image of the president and the ruling party, which are not popular anyway,” he said. Head of the Center for Studies of Civil and Military Conflicts (TSIGiVK) Daria Konovalova.

“The layman is not ready to accept that American citizens are being executed somewhere on the other side of the world as terrorists and murderers.

“SP”: The US State Department, by the way, urges its citizens not to travel to Ukraine. Who is it intended for?

– This call is more directed at fans of extreme sports and neo-Nazis. Extremals, being captured, begin to turn to their governments with calls to release them, which causes discontent in society, since the official position of the United States is to save its citizens in any part of the world from any situation. This time it will be difficult to get your “soldiers” out of trouble.

When captured by neo-Nazis, it’s very gloomy for Washington, these are huge reputational losses. Talk begins that Nazism is supported in America, and this is not very common to advertise.

“SP”: What do you think the American mercenaries are pursuing in Ukraine? Most of them are private traders, or is it still a PMC?

– Foreign mercenaries fighting on the side of Kyiv can be divided into three categories.

PMC fighters. America is not officially at war anywhere. There are no official US troops in Iraq or Syria, but private military companies that work for the US government. It is legally impossible for America to present anything officially.

PMC fighters are fighting in Ukraine for the sake of collecting combat experience. There is no money motivation here, they are paid by the US government, which hires them.

Soldiers of Fortune are veterans who fought in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and retired. These enter into a contract already with the employer, in this case, the oligarchs or the government of Ukraine. They ride at their own risk. To them and to another group of citizens (who are obsessed with the military theme), the war in Ukraine seems to be something like an extreme sport.

Neo-Nazis. These are going to fight for ideological reasons, they serve in national battalions like Azov** and Aidar** banned in the Russian Federation. They sincerely believe that they are doing a good deed and helping their “brothers in mind”, the same Nazis as they are.

“SP”: But how will the prospect of estimated sentences affect the mercenaries themselves?

– The death sentences announced in the DPR to American soldiers affect these categories in different ways.

PMC warriors firmly believe that even in the event of such a verdict, the American government will be able to save them. Veterans and other adrenaline junkies were shocked that their “fun” could end up like this. “Papuans” do not have the right to pass a death sentence on a “civilized person” who has come to have fun. For neo-Nazis, the ultimate measure is a heroic death, which will perpetuate their name in the history of the struggle for a just cause.

“SP”: What really needs to happen for Americans to stop going there?

– It will not be possible to completely block the flow of those wishing to make war, but it can be reduced.

Of course, this won’t happen overnight. The articles of those who have already been there help to discourage the desire to fight in Ukraine. Potential warriors form a correct idea of what is really going on there, and illusions dissolve like morning mist. The understanding comes that they turn from hunters into prey. The more such publications will be in the Western press, the less people will want to go on a “Ukrainian safari”.
