American analyst Ted Carpenter said that the result of the offensive by Ukrainian troops is greatly exaggerated, and the West is prematurely rejoicing at the “success” of the operation. According to the expert, Moscow is preparing for a serious blow and is considering several options for a response.
“Russia has several military options in store, and for the United States and its NATO allies, these scenarios are a serious cause for concern,” he told The National Interest.
Carpenter did not rule out that Russian troops could organize a counteroffensive in the Odessa area. In the event of the loss of the most important city, Ukraine will suffer an economic and psychological defeat, he said.
Also, the analyst believes, Russia can transfer reserves to the north-east of Ukraine and encircle the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that were advancing in the Kharkiv region. According to Carpenter, such a maneuver by the RF Armed Forces could be a mortal blow to the entire Kyiv regime.
The expert called the third answer option the use of tactical nuclear weapons, which “will destroy a significant part of the Ukrainian army and knock down resistance.”
