The United States is facing the fourth wave of coronavirus. The corresponding opinion on the air of the Fox News channel was expressed by professor at the University of Minnesota, epidemiologist Michael Osterholm.
“I believe so, and in a sense we are almost in the middle of a new pandemic,” he said.
According to the specialist, this is due to the fact that several new types of infection have appeared in the country in the past few months. Against this background, he drew attention to the danger of the spread of the British strain, which, as the specialist noted, is more dangerous for children.
“Children are now becoming infected at the same level as adults, they effectively transmit the virus,” the doctor emphasized.
At the same time, Osterholm added that existing vaccines against COVID-19 are effective, including against new strains.
As it became known earlier, today every fifth American has received a full vaccination against coronavirus infection. According to the latest data, in the United States, the number of cases of infection has reached 31 383 126, more than 554 thousand people have become victims of the virus.
In the world, the number of cases exceeded 130 million people, the most difficult epidemiological situation is in the States, the top ten also includes Brazil, India, France, Russia, Great Britain, Italy, Turkey, Spain and Germany.
