The work of the stock exchange and all banks, except for the national one, has been temporarily suspended in Kazakhstan. The press secretary of the National Bank Olzhas Ramazanov announced this on the air of the Khabar 24 TV channel.
According to him, this decision was made taking into account the failures in the Internet, as well as the conduct of counter-terrorism operations by the security forces.
Ramazanov stressed that the measure is aimed at protecting the health and life of employees of financial institutions and clients.
Meanwhile, in Nur-Sultan, residents are en masse trying to withdraw money from the only working bank. As noted by Sputnik Kazakhstan, a long queue has formed at the bank’s branch.
The day before, it was reported that the non-cash payment system stopped working in Kazakhstan amid disruptions to the Internet and ongoing riots.
