AIU disqualified ex-head of ARAF Shlyakhtin for four years

The independent disciplinary body Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) suspended the former president of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) Dmitry Shlyakhtin for four years in the case of high jumper Danil Lysenko.

According to TASS, together with Shlyakhtin, ex-executive director of the ARAF Alexander Parkin, former employees of the organization Elena Ikonnikova and Elena Orlova, as well as ex-member of the ARAF board, head of the Athletics Federation of the Moscow Region Artur Karamyan were disqualified.

The AIU found them guilty of falsifying documents and refusing to cooperate with the investigation in the case of Lysenko, who in early August 2018 was suspended from the competition for missing three doping tests within 12 months.

The period for disqualification of sports officials starts on November 21, 2019.

President of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) Dmitry Shlyakhtin announced his decision to leave his post in November 2019 after the Independent Athletics Disciplinary Body (AIU) decided to suspend him.
