The American withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 is often compared to their departure from Vietnam in 1975. But, in fact, there is a significant difference here. It was quite accurately defined by the American analyst Yoram Etinger.
In his opinion, in 1975, the US withdrawal from Vietnam embodied the goal of the Viet Cong (North Vietnam), putting an end to the US-Vietnam conflict.
In 2021, the US withdrawal from Afghanistan promotes – but does not achieve – the goals of the Taliban * and Al-Qaeda * and therefore does not end the conflict between the US and Islamic terrorism.
