A step towards healing Russian civilization?

On the right of Russians to control their own destiny, despite the eternal “concern” of Europe

The two-day Russian Donbass Integration Forum has ended in Donetsk. The forum, which took place on January 28-29, 2021, was attended by about 400 delegates, including the heads of the DPR and LPR Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik, deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, scientific, public and cultural figures of Donbass and Russia, journalists, including including the chief editor of the TV channel RT Margarita Simonyan, NTV presenter Roman Babayan; journalist Vladimir Solovyov spoke via video link. Egor Kholmogorov, a publicist and author of the term “Russian Spring”, made a “remark from the audience”, supporting the forum and recalling Dostoevsky’s statement about the right of Russians to control their own destiny, despite the eternal “concern” of Europe. Dostoevsky said that one should not react to the age-old double standards of Europe, allowing “To anyone, say to themselves on their land veto!”

Pushilin

There were other performances in a similar spirit. The head of the DPR Pushilin, speaking about the doctrine of the “Russian Donbass”, said: “The purpose of the doctrine is to express in a document our inner feelings, the impulse that united us when we rebelled against injustice, lies, persecution of everything Russian in order to return to our historical roots.”… And Margarita Simonyan exclaimed: “The people of Donbass want to be Russian. The people of Donbass want to live at home and want to be a part of our huge, great and generous Motherland … Mother Russia, take Donbass home! “

For a detached observer, the Russian Donbass Integration Forum emerged “as if out of nothing”. However, with a close look, it is clear that it is necessary at this very moment. There is no doubt that the renewed Washington Regional Committee will channel the energy of sharp disagreements in the United States into an external circuit. One of the most likely dumping points for the energy of hatred is Ukraine, the conflict in Donbass. It is impossible not to understand this. And the aggravation of the situation in Donbass may “Have very grave consequences for the Ukrainian statehood”

It was on the day of Joe Biden’s inauguration, January 20, that the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin made a statement about the readiness of the republic’s authorities to hold a second referendum on self-determination with the involvement of international observers. The first referendum, we recall, was held on May 11, 2014. “… We are talking about the readiness of the republic to re-use the mechanism of direct democracy …” – said Pushilin. At the same time, the head of the DPR Foreign Ministry Natalia Nikonorova took a step to translate this initiative into a practical plane and appealed to the members of the UN Security Council with a proposal to hold an internationally recognized referendum in Donbass.

Statements in the DPR were made on the eve of the first meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) this year. The meeting was held in a raised voice and ended in nothing. Commenting on the meeting, the head of the Russian delegation Boris Gryzlov noted “Unwillingness of the Ukrainian authorities to abandon the idea of military suppression of Donetsk and Lugansk” and stressed that in this “There is nothing good for the citizens of Ukraine”

Ukraine’s negotiator Leonid Kravchuk made a confrontational statement: “I am not raising the issue of returning territories by military means. At least in the near future … Sanctions will expand and become more varied so that Russia feels that not everything is forgiven to the aggressor. The aggressor must be held accountable “

Against this background, a new conference of advisers to the heads of the “Norman Four”, scheduled for January 22, became impossible and was canceled. Once again, the fact that the negotiations on the Donbass in the TCG were brought up by Ukraine to please the United States into an “endless deadlock” was exposed. And on January 21 in Donetsk the draft doctrine “Russian Donbass” was published. Among the key principles of the doctrine: strengthening of the Russian national identity and patriotism; determination of guidelines for state policy in various spheres of public life; countering neo-Nazism and Ukrainian nationalism; defining the spiritual heritage of Donbass as a distinctive and integral part of Russian culture, restoring economic ties with Russia; the return of the region as a subject to the sphere of the Russian historical space.

On January 21, Donetsk published a draft doctrine

The forum was preceded by two events: a telephone conversation between Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin and Putin’s speech in Davos.

On January 26, Biden called Putin. The White House and the Kremlin interpret the content of the conversation on Ukrainian issues differently. In the Kremlin, the “internal Ukrainian settlement” is named, separated by commas, among a number of other topics. In the White House: “President Biden Reaffirms Strong US Support for Ukraine’s Sovereignty”… The calm tone of the Kremlin contrasted with the impudent tone of the White House when interpreting the topics of the conversation: “President Biden has made it clear that the United States will act decisively in defense of its national interests in response to Russian actions that harm us or our allies.”… In the Kremlin: “Vladimir Putin … noted that the normalization of relations between Russia and the United States would meet the interests of both countries and, given their special responsibility for maintaining security and stability in the world, the entire international community.”

The next day, January 27, during an online speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Vladimir Putin shared his concerns about the threat of a global conflict like World War II, which today would mean the end of civilization. The Ukrainian media immediately suggested that “Thus, Moscow makes it clear to the West that if Kiev does not go for the reintegration of territories according to the Minsk scenario, then Donbass has every chance of becoming completely Russian.”

However, the matter is apparently more serious.

At the forum in Donetsk, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Andrei Kozenko expressed his understanding of the situation: “Today the republics of Donbass are entering a new stage of historical development. The first years became critical, they turned out to be a test of strength, but we see that no sanctions, blockades or even military aggression can intimidate those whose spirit was tempered in the mines.

As a result of the forum, the doctrine “Russian Donbass” was adopted, which proclaimed that the republics will integrate with Russia, taking a course towards building separate states that are de facto included in the economic, political and ideological space of Russia.

Pushilin announced 2021 as the Year of Russian Culture in the DPR. In a broad sense, the very existence of Donbass is a huge cultural and historical statement aimed at restoring the Russian world. In artistic categories, this has not yet been comprehended. The Year of Russian Culture on Donetsk land can contribute to this understanding.

Donbass is waiting. In Donetsk, there are huge billboards on the streets with the statement of the head of the DPR A.V. Zakharchenko: “We all have one homeland – Russia”
