A new mutation of the coronavirus has been identified in Japan. It differs from the strains that are spreading in the UK and South Africa, although it is partially similar to them.
According to the data of Japanese infectious disease specialists, the new mutation does not contain “dropouts” of amino acids in some positions.
The new strain was found in four people who arrived in early January from Brazil.
One of them, a 40-year-old man, was hospitalized due to breathing problems. The woman has headaches and sore throat, the child has a fever, and the fourth infected has no symptoms yet, according to the Kyodo news agency.
As the scientists note, they cannot yet assess the level of pathogenicity and contagiousness of the new variant of the virus, as well as the effectiveness of testing methods or vaccines in this regard.
