Alberta Chief Sanitary Officer Danny Hinshaw said that Canada had recorded the first case of infection with a new strain of coronavirus associated with South Africa, Interfax reports.
“The person is in quarantine – and there is no evidence yet that the virus has infected other people,” the specialist said.
The first case of South African COVID-19 infection was found in a person who recently traveled, Hinsho said.
Earlier, some media outlets, referring to the report of the White House working group on combating COVID, reported that a more contagious mutated form of coronavirus infection could appear in the United States, which spreads 50% more actively than the summer version.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that the White House data on the emergence of a new, more infectious strain of coronavirus in the country is not true.
