At the end of March, the largest Russian processor-freezer trawler Captain Geller, designed for sea fishing in the Atlantic and Far East regions, was launched in St. Petersburg. This vessel is undeniably the pride of the Russian fleet.
How it all began
The fishing trawler is being built by Severnaya Verf. It was founded in 1914. Over the century of its existence in St. Petersburg, more than 600 military surface and underwater units of equipment have been built. The shipyard is the main production facility in the defense sector of the Russian Federation.
Captain Geller is part of a large order of the NOREBO brand with a total value of 38.5 billion rubles. Similar vessels were launched last year and are already in operation with the customer. Now the trawler is being studied in the water area, which makes it possible to track its behavior on the water. Installation of pipes and casing is also carried out on the water.
Captain Geller belongs to the Russian company Rybprominvest. The construction of the ship will attract capital to the Russian economy through cooperation and supply. The vessel should be delivered to the customer at the beginning of 2022.
Dimensions and specifications
“Captain Geller” is the largest among the other vessels of the customer. It is 82 meters long and 16 meters wide. Displacement – 5500 tons of water. The trawler will be able to reach speeds of up to 15 knots per hour with the main engine power 6,200,000 watts.
The ship will use the Wärtsilä 10V31 engine, the world’s most powerful four-stroke engine. It is also listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most efficient in terms of efficiency (efficiency).
The main task of the trawler is to store frozen fish. The Captain Geller vessel can hold up to 100 tons of frozen seafood. The maintenance of such a giant requires a crew of 80 highly qualified sailors.
Features of the vessel and its uniqueness
Unlike other fishing vessels, the trawler has the ability not only to store fish, but also to preserve it immediately. A kind of factory in the middle of the sea can produce ready-made canned seafood from the conveyor. This allows you to minimize the time for making fish in cans. In addition, bypassing the stage of freezing and defrosting, the production does not lose the beneficial properties of seafood, such as the content of omega-3 and so on.
The ship will use absolutely all the resources at its disposal. For example, fish and seafood leftovers are future fishmeal, and the liquid used to cool the engine will go through pipes to the cabins to heat them. This use of resources makes the ship environmentally friendly, which plays an important role.
Captain Geller is a unique vessel, the first serial freezer processor-trawler, which has no analogues in Russia.
