A federal register of bone marrow donors will be created in Russia, TASS reports with reference to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
At a meeting of the Government of the Russian Federation, he said that the detailed database will be constantly updated. With its help, doctors will be able to quickly find the right donors for patients, and not only in their region, but throughout the country. At the same time, volunteers will be paid from the budget funds for the road to the place of transplantation and back in the manner that will be established by the Cabinet.
Mishustin also noted that the Government of the Russian Federation will today consider amendments to the legislation on organ transplantation. The head of the Cabinet reminded that thousands of patients, including children, need bone marrow transplantation in Russia. At the same time, it can be difficult to find a suitable donor, while the search time is often limited to several days, the prime minister stated.
“People who help save lives deserve the greatest respect: they come to help when they are especially needed, give hope for recovery to seriously ill patients. It is important that nothing threatens their health either. Donors need to know everything about possible complications due to the upcoming operation, ”Mishustin emphasized. He promised that they will be assigned the right to medical examination, treatment and rehabilitation.
